The MoBo is a 1998 vintage that I inherited. Worked fine at 256MB until I tried a seond 256MB memory board. This is all PC100. At the time BIOS still saw only 256MB. I took out the new stick; now it sees only 128MB. Tried resteating the board, but no luck. In the process, had to remove FDD and HDD connectors and turn power on and off a few times. When booting BIOS said CPU changed; I'm sure it was only the speed (350MHz normally). Something changed in the BIOS, but can't figure out what. Linux seems to boot and operate well in 1028x768, even with 128MB. Go figure.
Can anyone help with the BIOS settings. There seem no way to tell the system about how much memory there really is? Lou. |

try resetting/clearing the BIOS, and is it possible that you may have taken off a jumper, most boards that old use Jumpers for the CPU speed, and it might need a jumper changed for the RAM, so check all jumpers and clear BIOS, with some luck that should fix it
