    Plugging in memory

Intel motherboard, 4 slots for memory (2 sets of 2) can hold total of 8gb.

    I'm plugging 4gb into it.

Do the memory sticks need to go in any particular order? Next to each other? One in each 2-block? Doesn't matter?

Depends on the motherboard. Some motherboards run in dual channel where you need one memory in each... Nowadays they are quite often color coded to show if they run in dual channel...

If you list the motherboard model, or you can just go to the manufacturers website to look up the manual... that should tell you how to place the memory sticks.

    Intel DG965RY.

And you're right, they are color coded: Two groups, each group has one black, one blue.

    [BLACK] [BLUE]---------[BLACK] [BLUE]

They are dual channel then.... On the motherboard next to the slots, you'll probably see something that either says DIMM 0 next to one of the colors, and DIMM 1 next to the other. Place the memory in the same colored slot..

Make sure the matched pair are the same speed and size.
