Power LED lit on asus a8v deluxe, but no boot

I recently bought new parts to built my own computer to put 64-bit Gentoo on it. I have an asus a8v deluxe motherboard, an amd-64 3500+ chip, the ultra x-connect power supply, Ultra DDR 512MB PC3200 400MHz, and other parts (if you need to know them, just ask).

I put everything together according to the various manuals, but when I try to power on, nothing happens. Both atx power cables are attached to the motherboard, and the motherboard LED is glowing, so I know that the power supply is at least giving the motherboard power. However, no matter how much I try to change around the various power connector cords, I cannot get the thing to boot up.

When I turn the power supply on (after it is plugged in) the mobo LED turns on. Then, when I press the power on button on the fron of my silverston TJ06 case, the fans move for a split second (they rotate maybe a cm) and then stop. It is like they get power for a second and then stop.

One thing I may be doing wrong is how I oriented the system panel connectors (2-31 in the manual). I can see where each connector goes, but do I connect with the words of the connector facing outwards or inwards? Maybe that is why my power on switch only works for a second.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you in advance.

the connector should only go one direction. Try unplugging all the cables except the ones running to the mobo, shoulds like a psu problem.

Well, I can suggest that you check to make sure the 4 pin CPU power cable is connected. That was my mistake when I first put my A8V together. Second, make sure you have the panel cables installed correctly. If the power switch cable is in wrong it won't stay in ON mode.

The Power LED on the motherboard is worthless. If it is on, it doesnt mean that your motherboard is getting the power it needs to boot. There are a lot more defective PSU's out there than mother boards, expecially the ones that come with cheap case/psu combos.. I went threw 3!!!!! NEW PSU's before my asus mobo POST and boot. It works great now! no other problems with POST or anything since then... All I can say is a lot of PSU's are flakey... Hope this helps a little..

asus a8v

I have built a new computer useing a asus a8v.when completed it would not boot untill i removed 2 of the 4 memory sticks.when i removed them it tryed to boot but i had no graphics.in the end i used a old pci 64mb card and it booted up no problems.after i installed windows xp i used the motherboard disc to install drivers and it installed drivers for the agp slot i think?.now it works fine and i put the other 2 memory sticks in and my agp ultra graphic card in no problems.but when i switch the power switch on ,on the back of my computer the fans light up and move abit.the led is on all so in the case.when i press the front switch the computer powers up and boots no problem.is anyone having the same problem with the power befor thay switch on?my psu is 350 watt.hope this helps.
