Exclamation Probem with ECS PM800-M2 mobo

I just put together a low budget fresh build using the following:

ECS PM800-M2 mobo
P4 3.0E GHz Prescott, 800 Mhz FSB, socket 478
512 Mb RAM
120 GB Western digital HD
350 Watt ps/case.
CD-RW drive

Here's the problem. On boot up, I get the following error message; "Processor changed or processor ratio changed fail. change settings in CMOS setup and save."

If I press F1 to continue, the system seems to boot normally and function ok.

If I enter the CMOS setup, with or without making any changes the system locks when I try to save and exit at the "Save & Exit? Y" prompt. It doesn't lockup if I exit without saving. In the CMOS the only change it appears I could make (if it would let me without locking up) regarding the processor is the frequency can be changed between 200-232 (it is at 200 now, not sure what it should be for this processor).

This Mobo was purchased new, but came installed in the case as part of a barebones system. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first processor to be installed on it. the Processor was new also, factory box set with HS/Fan from Intel.

Any Ideas? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Exclamation Ecs Pm800-m2

Hi;

Just built an almost identical system. Try selecting reset configuration data under PnP/PCI Configurations panel in the BIOs, or by selecting Load Fail-Safe defaults in the BIOs.

If CMOS isn't letting you save these two things, I'd return the board for another one.

CPU Clock is supposed to be set at 200MHz, for that is the natural bus rate. Intel double pumps this up to 800MHz within the processor itself. You must also have the extra 4-pin P4 ATX power connector attached to the board as well as the 20-pin power connector.

Good Luck. Seems like a really nice board. I have ordered 2 Raptors to check the raid out.

Thumbs up Bios flash is the answer

Mine does the identical thing.

This is a problem with the original bios release.

Updating to version 1.1b or higher fixes it.

You need to go to the ECS Taiwan webpage to get the latest bios, with version 1.2b the latest release. ECS USA only has version 1.0 on their website.

I prefer the AWARD flash utility from a floppy, but it's a matter of choice.

Angry Re:Probem with ECS PM800-M2 mobo

Hello,

I got also a Barebone with the PM800-M2 included and have also a P4 3.0E GHz Prescott, 800 Mhz FSB, socket 478
512 Mb RAM/Centon DDR3200 (the same exact config as Donsixtyfive) and I got the same exact error with the same unability to save the bios config.
ECS support was not helping at all, just copying the information from their websites into the email answer.
I tried to flash my Bios with the 1.2b and it failed (because, I think, I didn't reset my CMOS before rebooting).
So now I need to get a new Bios from badflash.com
This story is a nightmare.
My questions :
-What's the difference between the 1.2a and 1.2b, the description of them is the same on the TW ECS Website
-Wich version of BIOS should I install : 1.1b, 1.2a, 1.2b
-Any information regarding a possible incompatibility between this Mobo and the components (P4 and Ram) I have ?

Thank you for your help. Every inputs are Welcome.

Same board-different problem

I have also just finished assembling a bare bones kit with the PM800-M2 mother board. Only mine will not do anything at all. Have checked power, switches, etc., all normal and turned on. Unplugged and reseated all connections. Both ATX1 and ATX2 are plugged in and seated properly. Removed accessary boards down to bare minimum system and nothing. No fans or anything. 4.12 vdc on pin 14 (PS ON) and 5 vdc on pin 9 (+5VSB) of unplugged ATX1. 0 volts on everthing else. Unit acts like it isn't plugged in at all, but it definitely is. Any suggestions? Thanks! CB

Slept on it and...

got up this morning and rechecked everything from the beginning. With a little fresher frame of mind I realized I had misunderstood the cmos jumper settings. Had confused the 'clear cmos' and the 'BIOS protect' jumpers. Actually had them set opposite of what they are supposed to be. Corrected the mistake and everything has worked fine since. Just got through installing the OS. CB

What are the Particulars on Flashing this BIOS?

I have downloaded the latest BIOS data from ECS Taiwan.
When using the Winflash utility, do you select all of the Bios Blocks or just the boot block. Any help would be appreciated.

What should I set this at? Clear CMOS or BIOS Protect? I am a novice. My PC boots, but does not complete the boot and shuts off.
