Problem with my HP zt1195 laptop motherboard

Hello All,

A few months ago the laptop started switching off automatically for no apparent reason. This happened while using windows and linux. So I don't think it is an OS virus/worm. Then thought it could be a BIOS prob. Hence flashed the latest BIOS and still have the same problem.

In the meantime, on of my uncles had the same problem with his desktop and he tracked that to the exhaused onboard button cell that powers the BIOS. He fixed his machine by just replacing the cell. So I thought I shall try to change it on mine but couldn't find the cell on the motherboard.

Also, to make the machine run I need to sometimes switch it on 10 times or more. The battery doesn't charge on the machine and BIOS date, time and other data are screwed up.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem please?

Thanks,
Senthil

Definitely sounds like the CMOS battery is dying. Not sure if you can easily access it on your laptop. CompUSA is an HP authorized service place, they might be able to help you out.
