problems on boot up

K heres the deal:

I got a PC witch doesn't boot anymore. It gets power and all, fans start running, but I don't get screen.

At least, almost never. once in the 10? or so reboots, I do get screen. But when I do, it hangs right away even before it loads the bios/starts post.

I got in a new video card, Got in an other Bios Battary, put in other Ram.

Disconnected everything. The only thing connected now are: 128 MB ram. Power supply and the CPU (Cpu fan ofcourse) but further everything is disconnected.

if you can help me post here or mail me at krusher(at)planet.nl

thanks in advance,
Benny Verschoor

You have a bad PSU, Motherboard or processor. Take your pick which is the most likely culprit. I'm inclined to say the motherboard, based on your description, followed by the CPU. Check to make sure the CPU fan is working and blow the dust out of the heatsink. Reseat the processor as well and check all connections. There's a remote possibility there is an overheating issue at work here, but like I said, that's remote.

sorry for not saying it but we already found the problem:P

we putted the processor in a other P4 socket 478 pc to check out if it was the processor or the motherboard. So the processor worked on a the other Pc so that was not it. then we tried the working processor from the other pc into this motherboard and didn't do a thing.

thanks for the help anyway.

what's the PSU? is that the power suply unit?

If so, already tried that one to.

Again thnx for trying to help,
yours,
Benny Verschoor

Yes, Power Supply Unit. Glad to see I was on target with my diagnosis, anyway.
