syntax 266a no boot problem

Hello, I've seen several instances of people having boot problems with the sv266a motherboard. But I've seen no solutions or causes. I'm sitting here with one, that when I push the power button, the fans spin, you can hear hd and fd come on and do their check but then nothing. I've checked and double checked for ground problems, changed ram, power supply, I don't have a amd cpu to try other than the 2000xp that came in the barebones set. There are no beeps, no video, (swapped cards). So what now??? Any ideas?? thanks for reading ..Alan

what type of ram are you using, sd or ddr. there maybe a jumper that has to be set for the voltage/frequency. if not the board may have been tested before you got it and they used different ram and the cmos needs to be cleared.

Hi and thanks for listening to my problem. I first tried using sdram in which I had to remove several jumpers. I did clear cmos numerous times. It would not come up with sdram. Thinking sdram was the possible problem (i read it cud be)I ordered ddr ram. Still the same. I went over and over jumper setting to make sure they were correct. Still the same thing, so what now...ke4nu

is this board new? did it ever run? if not you may have just got a bad board, may have been damaged in shipment. sounds like you tried most things, i have seen power supply connections have the wires back out from the connector enough where they dont make contact, check to see that they are all down in the plastic connector. is the cpu fan plugged on the correct fan power? i have seen some plugged on system fan connections and cause odd things. also try just hooking the power button to the front pannel connectors, leave off the reset button, hdd led, power led ect. may have a connection problem. sometimes the lights burn out and cause a short.

Yes, its a new board. Hmm I haven't checked the power cable connector other than taking the pwr supply to another computer and trying it which it worked fine. I did take some of the connectors off, all of them and then put them back one at a time including reset, hd ect...I'll take a closer look at the mboard pwr connector, oh btw...I remembered I checked voltages on a pwr connector that went to the hd. It was 5 and 12 just like it was supposed to be...thanks...ke4nu

I have the same exact problem!!! I ordered new from tiger direct,266A m/b, 1800 XP Processor, 128 mb DDR. and after assembly no screen but power to the fans and HD. I just got a Return authorization # to send motherboard back. I covered every angle from jumpers to swapping video cards. 2 days of frustration thinking the chances of the parts being bad were very slim. I post any fixes.

Check your cpu...My cpu fan wasn't tight and it burned the cpu up in a couple of seconds...I put an old duron 800 in and it powered up, stood the tower up and quit. I tightened the cpu heat sink up and it works fine. Of course the xp2000 was toast (and they installed it all before they shipped it) and the company would not replace it nor warranty it...no more from them...good luck..
