Exclamation Uknown mother board with on board sound.

Ok...I recently redid my computer and lost the drivers for my sound. I have no idea as to what the drivers are becuase I had not originally set it up. So I am here now without sound and trying to find out how to find the drivers.

so basically it all comes down to..Is there a certain place I have to look on the mother board or something to find out what Mother board/on board sound there is? Cus I looked but I didnt see anything..but then again I didnt know where to look lol.

If any one is able to help give me an idea as to where to look I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

By redid what do you mean? Like rebuilt and renovated or just reintsalled the OS (probably Windows...)?

To get the drivers use the cd-rom that came with your motherboard... everything should be on there.

But if it is old, you have no cd-rom and have no clue what the model then just take off the side-panel of your case, and look for obvious pointers, like big writing.

For example, my mb you wouldn't really know, but a "D-Bracket" that came with it sais MSI. MSI makes motherboards (and other things...). All a round my motherboard there is fairly large text. The one that stuck out the most as between 2 PCI slots, it said "K7N2", which is the model of my motherboard.

That's the trick to find out what hardware you have. You at big pointers, stickers or the largest chips.

I redid the os. and yes windows..and last night I found out that it was made in 97(so old I feel like crying lol) cus my friend had me download sandra...adn it got me a nunch of model numbers....but no brand name so I dont know exactly what to do or where to find anything beyond this point.

After I dled the program I was able to run an analysis of my main board and it told me the model number but i havent been able to find anything.

The numbers were...i440lx-w83977ef...maybe you would be able to find something...the only slight bit of info. I could figure out is that i440lx is my processer model.

Hmmm... for some reason when I did a search on the i440lx most of the had numbers follwing thenm like yours. I don't know that software though but the other number seems to have something to do with a WinBond chipset or motherboard of whatever.. I don't really have time right now but I may have time later tonight. Try searching also for "w83977ef"

EDIT: Why don't you open up your computer like I proposed? It might save some time and you won't/shouldn't have to touch or remove anything.

i440lx is not a processer model it is a chipset model your motherboard has a Intel 440 lx chipset. that means its a PII less than 350mhz. When you boot it up look for a string that flashes on the screen first thing it should say something like american megatrends or award bios then it will give a bunch on numbers this is the bios manufacturers code You may be able to track down your manufacturer from that. Just go to award or americans site and search for that code. Good luck that is an old board.
