I just encountered the same problem. I have a hunch the computer is including the card reader in the boot device sequence. The card reader is registered in Device Manager as a "USBAT Mass Storage Device". Basically the BIOS is trying to boot from the storage card first, and eventually timing out after a long wait and moving on to the hard drive. My BIOS settings allow me to change the boot sequence; I'll have to research and see what to change. In the meantime, I just unplugged the USB cable from the reader unless I'm using the reader.
