My DFI AD77 Infinity rev B+ motherboard with an AMD Atholon XP +2400 came with a Hardware monitor named HWDOCTOR ver 3.4.1.1, from WINBOND Electronic Corp. (Hardware monitor chip W83697HF).
From a few days, the hardware monitor is giving the following warning: "YOUR -5 VOLTAGE EXCEEDS THE LIMIT" It is going to -5.64 volts. The same warning message also is given for the +5 volts, witch is going now as low as 4.3 volts. The voltages have dropped day to day. When this happens the mouse arrow goes low on movement, when the voltage stabilizes it works normally again. The voltages are not always at the values I gave. They fluctuate. Could you help me correct this problem? Could it be a power supply problem? Specs: Thanks for your help, I got a new power supply and this helped. The two first days with the new P.S. it worked fine at the default settings of the PChealth hardware monitoring system HWDoctor. I had no warning. Then I started to have a warning only on the -5 voltage. The default values on HWDoctor are from: -4.50 to -5.50 volts, and I had to move the range up to -5.70 to stop the warning because the -5 voltage reading on my system is now between -5.64 to -5.49 volts. Most of the time at 5.64 vts.I have the following hardware: One Floppy One CD Player One CD Writer 785,908 KB of RAM memory on 3 256 DDR 3200 modules One CPU fan Three System-case fans. One USB Scanner One USB printer One USB Web cam. One MSI FX-5200-T128 Video Card (128 DDR memory) One TV-FM card (Capture) One Internal modem. One 5.1 speaker system One PS/2 Keyboard One USB Optical mouse One 17" monitor plus the Motherboard & Processor I mentioned. My actual voltage readings are: V-Core=1.66 +3.3V=3.26 TO 3.28 +5V=4.76 TO 4.87 +12V=12.78 -12V=-12.60 TO -12.93 -5V=-5.49 TO 5.69 5VSB=4.94 TO 4.97 VBAT=3.28 SYS TEMP=35ēC CPU TEMP=48ēc CPU FAN R.P.M.=3154 RPM SYS FAN R.P.M.=2596 RPM I appreciate very much your help. Sounds like a weak/inadequate/dying power supply. What do you have, and what hardware do you have? (full setup)

If you have a high-end video card and heaps of USB devices powered from the USB port and things like that then you can end up putting too much load on the power supply.
As karsh44 said, post all of your specs. |

What is the rating of your power supply? 350w would be my recommended minimum, and be sure to buy a good brand.

u have a usb printer and other power guzzlers. a 350 watt smps wont do. go for at leats a 450 watt. 500 or 600 would be preferable if your pocket supports it.
