Choose SQL-server BEFORE starting access
Hi there,
We somentimes need to logon to server1 and sometimes to server2. Because the access-project starts with the search for the last server logged onto, it takes a while before you can change the connection. Is there a way to change the connection-string BEFORE access starts trying to find the server? thanks a lot to answer this! Johan |

Can you explain more precisley?
it happens at the start of the application? can it be because the connection object is open at design time? i had similar problems and checking the connect status before compiling always worked. |

from memory...you can start access with a macro that can tell Access which server you want to connect
or can you just do 2 DB? do you have any auto-execute macro? can you use a ODBC data source? this way if you need to ajust for you another server just edit the data source |

access searches for server during startup
Quote:
The connection is open at design time, Access always searches for the last server connected to, it seems there is no way to tell access not to look for a server connection, or is there. Sorry for the late reply, have been on travel, thanks though. |

does this macro have a special name? or indeed, I can do 2 Db, seems the only solution, a bit primitive though. Can do a ODBC data source, but still, access always first starts and only then it is possible to edit the data source and change it, it works but it takes the standard time-out time (30 seconds) , which looks like a century. If there is a ini or register that can be set for access just telling the program NOT to search for a connection, it would be the solution... |
