Have you tried connecting to their db by the url (instead of by ip or machine name). The dns should resolve the ip from the url.

In enterprise manager, I have some some server connections listed by local mahcine name, some by ip, and some by url.

You need to go to Client Network Utility located together with your SQL (from Start->Programs->MSSQL->Client Network Utility) and setup the Alias with your hosting company ip (given to you).
