Which is best MySQL or MS SQL?

Hi everyone (anyone?),

I've been reading through the forum and I'm sure you're all quite sick of novices posting basic questions.

I've got the dilema of comparing the two databases MySQL and MS SQL Server, and I don't know much about either. Because I've studied computers, all my friends and colleagues think I'm a pro in all areas. I'm trying to leave no stone unturned in the comparison, so am asking for guidance (the difference) in all areas like speed, performance, size, available editions, etc...

As I'm posting this under the MS SQL forum, I'm expecting bias towards MS SQL. I'll quickly rush into the MySQL forum and post this again.

Any help is appreciated.
