Text wont show on page, but nvarchar will

    Hi,
we are using sql version 7
we have a table that has a column for large amount of text (like an article) we used text for the datatype and for some reason the text just wont show on the page or in the text box on the edit form. All we get is a 0 on the page, can anyone help with this? I know the code works cause all works great if I just change the datatype to varchar but then I am limited to 8000 chars. which just isnt enough in this case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Can you post some of your code where you are trying to display the text data? I've never had problems with this.

    Hi,
turns out it is a very common problem, but I did find a work around on another site, I thought I would share it incase someone else has this problem. The big trick is to put the TEXT column at the end of the sql statement so if your colums are:
    phone - varchar
    name - varchar
    information - text

    use SELECT phone,name,information

I Know it sounds stupid but it is a glitch and I was shocked that it worked too, but it does, ohh the "SELECT *" doesnt work when using TEXT data types, hope this helps someone.

    Cheers
    Happy Again
