5.1 problems with Sound Blaster Live!
I am having problems with my new 5.1 setup. I have the Logitech X-530 5.1 system with 5 satellites (Front: L/R/C, Rear: L/R) and what I believe is a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card. The model number on the card is CT4780 and it has five ports on the back (plus MIDI).
I connected the ports by color and only the Front L/R and sub work. I unplugged Black/Orange, and everything still works. I swapped the orange/black, still nothing. I updated the Windows profile to be 5.1 surround instead of 2 speakers, that doesn't work. I updated the Creative Labs drivers, that didn't do anything. I am only getting sound from Front L/R and sub, nothing from Center and Rear R/L. All the connections are secure and in their correct places. I have rebooted 10 times, that didn't do anything. I have enabled CMSS as this link indicates: http://forums.devshed.com/t139236/s.html I am totally lost. Does anyone have any pointers? [edit]: I am trying to get the sound out of Winamp. I have "Hardware Acceleration" on and have tried everything. The DirectSound plugin shows that only two channels are being used. |

I installed the kX alternate drivers for the soundcard with little success. The test works on the rear speakers just fine, but Winamp and Windows Media Player don't play to them whatsoever.

From Winamp site:
Does Winamp support Surround Sound in 4.1 or 5.1 outputs? 5.1 Surround is supported through analog playback only. Currently DTS/AC3 Digital SPDIF out is only 2 channel (We're planning on supporting it in the future). Winamp info at http://www.winamp.com/player/faq/#190 I used older Winamp (older because loaded blistering fast) and switched to WinMP 10 when ran into no audio on rear channel (I had upgraded audio card for surround sound). I use Win MP 10 and get audio out of rear channels. Not sure of 9 but is this on MS site regarding Surround Sound with WMP9. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/windowsmediaplayer/expert/bridgman_03january07.mspx I would recommend going through the MS article as it seems to be what you are looking for. Setting up and testing. Last edited by shakey1980 : October 13th, 2005 at 01:22 PM. |
