6800GS or 7800GT
I just got an AMD Athalon 3700+ and an Asus A8N SLI Deluxe. Now, I'm 15 and i dont have a set income. I would really like to get a 7800GT, but they are a little out of my price range. I have a ATI 128mb something that only works with AGP 8x and I have PCI express slots with this motherboard. Therefore I will be gaming with a normal PCI Voodoo 2 card. I mean, this thing can barely play Pong on high settings. I do a lot of gaming but I dont do it all the time. I do a lot of web design too (thats wh i have a 3700+) I kinda need a decent graphics card to work off of. so should i hold off until later for the 7800GT or get the 6800GS and maybe get ANOTHER by easter?
Thanks -Nate |

Depends on pricing, IMO. The 7800GT performs similarly to 2 6800GS's in SLI. From what prices I've seen, 2 6800's cost more than 1 7800gt. Based on that, I would get the 7800gt when you can (Christmas money?).
However, either of those are more video firepower than you probably need. The newest games on the very highest settings will nearly choke even the most expensisve graphics cards. However, if you turn the settings down a notch or two the game still looks good, and can be played with much cheaper hardware (like a regular 6800, for example). You just need to decide how much the latest and greatest is worth to you. If performance is paramount, get the 7800GT and show up your friends. If you can live with a bit less, maybe try the 6800GS and see if you really need to get another one at all. HTH

A 6800 GT is more than enough for todays games. If you have an SLI board you can buy the second card later. That will hold you over fairly well.
