A decent video card between $40-60

I'm not a gamer so much, but I'd like to spend around $50.
I'd like to get 1280x1024 @85Hz. I can get that with a geforce2 mx (32mb sdram), but I'm looking for a card that'll hold me into the future with doing miminal gaming.

Nothing in that price range will "hold you into the future" if you plan on any real gaming. The best is probably the GeForce FX5200. If you want to play doom 3 or something on anything but the lowest resolution, you'll need to look a bit higher on the scale.

doom 3 "midrage" is like a 3.4, 2 GB RAM, and a 9800XT. The highest quality you'll need a future card w/512 mb ram, so this game should make anyones rig bend over. I want to see the new cards at this, i can't believe these wouldn't be enough to max everything out.

I'm not looking for something that usual gamers get. I only play 2D or 2D/3D games.

Does it even matter what I get then? What other apps require recent video card technology?

I'm thinkin of getting something like this: Geforce4 MX440-SE 64MB DDR Dual Head. I might buy a second monitor sometime

If you do digital video editing, the video card can be a factor (along with ram & cpu). Games are by far the biggest users, however, so if you don't do much gaming now, and don't plan to in the future, you don't need much video firepower.

Heh... couldn't of said it better myself... On the computer I'm at right now that's what it has... It's good, I like it and it's really fast as long as you have the right drivers for it! I was even thinking of buying another one for the computer I'm building but I'm deciding to try the FX5500
