Agp not running at 8x
hi. i'm using a powercolor radeon 9600xt. however i notice that in the catalyst control center under the SMARTGART settings, it shows me that my current AGP speed is 0x. i'm using an AsRock p4vt8+ motherboard which does support 8x. when i try to set it to 8x in SMARTGART settings however. and after i restart my com, it still goes back to 0x. i checked using everest and it shows under AGP status that it is Disabled. it also shows that fast-write is 'not supported' and Side Band Addressing is Supported, Disabled. i'm therefore not maximizing my graphics card and was wondering how to do this.
thanks. |

Check your BIOS settings. It is possible that these are disabled.

If you go back into the BIOS now, has it changed back or still as you set it ?

Try updating your video card drivers to the latest version, including the latest version of Catalyst

still having the problem. updated to the latest drivers and catalyst as well. i've noticed in the catalyst control center under the information center tab, and graphics hardware tab, it shows Bus Type - AGP, and Current Bus Setting - OFF. why is this? and how do i change it? also the latest catalyst control center somehow is not displaying the 3d preview when u want to adjust the 3d settings. u know the one with the car going along the road....an error comes up and says that preview needs to close and there's a directx logo on the error report. the control center doesnt close though it is still able to function after that. but most importantly i still cant get the agp to run at 8x. i didnt even really realise until now that i've been running it all the while at 0x.

I registered just to say I have the exact same problem. Even uninstalled the drivers first, rebooted, THEN installed newest ones.
Gigabyte motherboard supporting 8x agp, X800 XT plugged in, AMD64 3700+. I checked BIOS settings, everthing looks cool with the agp turned onto 8x. 3D preview in CCC illegal ops in the very same way. Damn this is frustrating. ![]() |
