Question ATI 9600 or nVidia 5600

I am going to rebuild my PC in a quick time

I am confused which graphic card. I will use it for graphic applications like paintshop, photoshop pinnacle studio or adobe premmier movie making mainly, and sometimes a decent game at mid resolution.

I was leaning over nVidia GeForce FX 5600 but I am learning that the ATI 9600 is a better or faster

Still undecided, what are your suggestions?

The shop I am going to buy from has the following price list (1Lm = 2.8USD / 2.3 Euro)
http://www.scanmalta.com/pricelist.html

Anyone used this card (the one I think I am putting my eyes on)
ABIT ATI 9600 TV Out/DVI Vga card 256Mb

Thanks

Go for the ATI if it has a TV-out... You never know if you might use it.

I'd start going for competitive nVidia products once you start comparing them to Radeon 9800s, because of the problems that the 9800s pose (especially from personal experience).

Cool Question in selecting a mid-range card

[QUOTE=kanis]Go for the ATI if it has a TV-out... You never know if you might use it.

I think 5600 also have TV-out ???

Well still i decided on ATI now, but undecided if I get a
normal 9600 or 9600XT

There is a little gap in price difference but I can afford it if the advantages of the XT are pretty lot of 9600.

I will not playing a lot latest graphic hungry games, but will uses specialized graphic progs like paintshop, movie makers, (pinnac le Studio), probablt use a TV capture card in the future and what I am a fan of outputs and imputs so as I have flexibility what to get and put in the card.

What is your suggestion?

Question 2:

I see a lot makers for example making graphics card based on teh ATI 9600 chip. Is there a difference between different brands, or if it uses this chip then they are more or less the same. This is very confusing when it comes to select a card !!!

Answer #1: Buy the XT if you can afford it. The performance difference might be minimal, but it might be just enough to keep you from having to buy a new graphics card in a year or two.

Answer #2: It's always better to buy an actual ATI video card, instead of one from a company that makes a video card using the ATI chipset. The reason they are cheaper is generally they cut corners (i.e. do a more sloppy job) in regards to making the card. I know that the company Sapphire has had some problems with their Radeon 9800 cards, mainly because they had a false advertisement on their box saying that the card had twice the amount of memory than it actually had. For reasons like that, I only buy cards made solely by ATI

Bit of a difference of opinion here, I've never had any problems with cards made by other manufacturers, and you can definitely save money. The other manufacturers follow the same ati reference and do the same thing, but have less overhead (since they don't design the chips) so they can be cheaper. You of course want to keep an eye on them, but I have a Sapphire 9800pro, overclocked, and it runs like a watch.

final decission

I decided upon the 9600Xt - definetely

Question 1 - I read in some specs on the internet (I think Asus 9600xt or ATI 9600XT)) that it also comes with TV in. Is this correct?

Question 2 - Which 9600XT brand !!

I have to say that I agree with Karsh44 (no need to be ATI brand to save bit of money) and I was thinking about that Asus 9600XT, (have to buy it from abroad but read great reviews on Digital Daily - http://www.digital-daily.com/video/ati-vga-roundup2003/ ) or Mentor 9800XT which I can buy from Malta but I had not came accross a single review about it.

Is the Asus a good choice anyway ??? I dont mind to go to Siicly (Catania) to buy it from there.

owners of the Asus are welcomed
