ATI 9600xt Display Corruption (Different than below)

I purchased my 9600XT last december and ever since have occasionally received a display corruption (almost always when playing games - both on and offline). Lately it has become an increasingly frequent problem (more than likely due to new and improved games).

If I even attempt to play any games (Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Doom 3, Counter-Strike:Source, World of Warcraft) at a resolution of 1280x1024 or above, it results in instant corruption (the screen is replaced with a multitude of colored boxes that change and flash colors, occasionally completely cutting off the video output after a few seconds, causing the monitor to revert to sleep mode). Whereas at lower res's I can usually play for 30-45 minutes before the issue arises (except for lately in world of warcraft, after the recent patch textures were improved, and now am completely unable to play after death or in certain zones - I tried turning off advanced graphics options with no effect).

Every so often, when rebooting (I'm forced to reset the machine after this issue, as after the video output is cutoff, the system usually locks - sound hangs, caps lock doesnt work, etc.), the issue extends into the bootup process.

I have the latest drivers (Catalyst), and my machine is as follows ::

Intel P4 2.0ghz
(cant recall the particular MoBO #, but it + chip were scrapped from a Gateway machine)
768mb RDRAM
40 gb WD HDD
300W power
ATI 9600xt 128 mb

The vid card is all by its lonesome in the AGP slots, and the case is well ventilated (Had extra fans installed back when I was using an AMD T-bird).

I'm not overclocking anything, and have been in the troubleshooting process via email with ATI for quite a few weeks to no avail. I'm becoming extremely frustrated, as I paid quite a bit for this card and am unable to use it for any intensive graphical purposes.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate much information as to remedies for this issue, except for the generic ones ::
powersupply issues
gpu overheating

However, using the Catalyst menu immediately after a reboot (~20 seconds later), GPU temps are only around 30-35 C.. and a powersupply issue would not be likely to occur after the reboot as I'm seeing.

Any additional insights into this situation would be greatly appreciated. I'm not extremely knowledgable in this area.. but have heard that perhaps I need to flash the BIOS.. but I have been unable to locate the correct version for this particular card.

Thanks,
jimmy
