ati radeon won't fit
I just got an ATI Radeon 9200-SE, and for some insane reason, it won't clamp into the AGP slot on my mobo.... It fits right down, but I can't quite get it deep enough for the little plastic clamp to snap forward, all I need is like another 1 or 2 millimeteres, but no matter how hard (yet gently
) I push, I can't get it to fit ![]()

Can you compare the port connection to another card, does it appear to be longer than other AGP card. By "port connection" I mean part of the card with the gold fingers. 9200SE is a cheap card (not to knock you, I have one as well) and could be a manufacturer defect. If is too long only thing I could think is return or use wood/metal file to grind it down a bit.
Else could be your case/motherboard not together properly and the wrong motherboard risers used. The risers being the little stand-offs under motherboard between it and case chassis. If you use too short of stand-offs board be sitting low, but if this is the case you would notice PCI cards sit on an angle and not level. Lastly I could think of, and I hope is not your problem. I pulled a AGP card one time and could not get replacement into socket properly. Seems the first card pulled up some of pins from AGP socket with it (needless to say the socket was screwed, and so was motherboard). So check over socket and make sure does not seem pins pulled up with previous card. |

A mate of mine had the same issue with his mobo; he had an nVidia something, and some cheapo PCChips mobo. The clip wouldn't close, so he just left it open. That was a couple of months ago, and he's not had any problems with it as far as I know.

yeah, I know the 9200SE is cheap, but it's for a computer that I basically already had the spare parts to just lying around, so I didn't want to go overboard
The PCI cards are all flat, so it's not the mobo risers, altho that was a good thought.... I haven't inserted anyting into the AGP slot yet, so that's not the problem.... I guess I won't bother closing the clip and just see what happens.... hopefully it'll just work fine.... |
