Can't boot with new video card
I just tried to install my new eVga GeForce 6800GS video card, but it won't fit all the way into AGP slot. It come's darned close, but I'm a micrometer away from being able to clasp it in place.
So I decided the heck with it, I'd heard of other people running cards that didn't fit perfectly, and just made sure it was as snug as I could get it and then turned my PC on. I have a USB switch that I use to switch my wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo from one computer to another. Whenever I turn my computer on, it beeps. The interesting thing was that when I turned my computer back on, it refused to boot and the USB hub's beep never stopped (it usually only lasts a brief second before everything continues as normal). I replaced the new card with the previous one and tried booting again -- worked fine. What could the problem be? Possibly a bad card (got it from NewEgg)?

Sounds to me that it's definitely you card that's faulty. You should return it to newegg for a couple of reasons, B-Con, them being that it doesn't boot when the card is installed and that, the card doesn't even bloody fit !
Out of curiosity though, what happens when you try to boot ? Does it do anything ? Definitely return the card though bud and get a new one. |

I concur. No reason whatsoever to hang on to a card that won't fit and therefore won't work.

Just hangs while the USB switch emits a continuous, never-ending beep. Suppose I'll have to return it, bloody waste of time.... ![]() |

Hmm...I hope it was the card, how much of a difference in size is your old card to this new one? I've tried a few different sizes of cards, and some of the bigger ones have more trouble fitting for reasons I really don't get.

It's a fairly large card, and significantly, but not tremendously, larger than the GeForce 5600FX that it's replacing.

I'd say try it in another motherboard if possible.

There were cards that won't fit into a motherboard, and tried on another motherboard and there it fit .. but I don't advice you "just" to force that card, in the AGP slot... you could harm the slot and card too.
Maybe try at another motherboard, and if doesn't fits there, than it's a bad card ![]() |
