Question Capturing Hi-8 film ???

My friend has alot of footage on Hi-8 film that he wants to get into his shiny new pc.

How can it be done? Does he need to buy a capture card of some kind? If so, any recommendations?

I think he tried a couple but hasn't succeeded yet.

Thanks,

Hi-8 is videotape, not film. Go to Best Buy and get DVCreator (or something like that). It's an outboard device you plug into the usb port of your computer and your video player plugs into that. I am assuming it can handle hi-8 because it's very flexible but you need to ask or google for it.

I just went to BestBuys web site and they only show Dazzle from Pinnacle. For some reason that doesn't sound like the one I saw but maybe it is. I don't recall if Hi8 has analog outputs? If it does, that would work.

medialint agrees: Right: Hi-8 = video; Super-8 = Film
aitken325i agrees!

Ah ok.

Well anyway it's really messed up. I think he tried the Pinnacle Dazzle thing but couldn't get it to work.
