DVD/CD-RW and DVD-RW clashing
I already had a DVD/CD-RW and recently purchased a DVD-RW and installed it into my PC. Since installing the DVD-RW, the DVD/CD-RW no longer recognizes DVDs (but it still recognizes CDs).
I've tried every combination of jumper settings and placements on the IDE cable but still no luck. Any ideas? (both the DVD/CD-RW and DVD-RW are made by Samsung)

YOu should have one of the drives set as master and the other set as slave for the jumper settings.
Try updating the drivers and firmware for both drives firstly. |

I have tried that, setting one as master and one as slave and then even trying them on different combonations on the IDE cable. I read around some other forums and they said try using both on CS or one on CS and the other on MA/SL. All caused the DVD/CD-RW not to reconize DVDs.
I also updated all the firmware but no luck on that end as well. I got blisters on my fingers from constantly pulling out those power cables. |

Was the drive working find before hand ? It is possible that the drive in itself is faulty.
Try removing your new drive and placing it back to the old spec with the old drive to see if it detetcs a DVD this time ? If it doesn't, then the drive is on it's way out. |

Yes, the DVD/CD-RW was working perfectly before. It played CDs and DVDs. Now, when I put a DVD in the DVD/CD-RW then it allows me to open up disc in Windows Explorer but it just shows the disc as empty, but it shows all the contents of CDs.
I'll try switching it back to the old combination when I get home. Maybe I knocked it when I was tinkering around with the insids. :s |
