external mic for camcorder
greetings. anyone know of a quality (and affordable!) external microphone for my mini DV camcorder?

I've had good results recording live music with a AUDIO TECHNICA ATR-55 Condenser Shotgun Microphone. There are two drawbacks I've found: One is that is needs it's own battery, so be sure to toss a couple of fresh ones in your bag before leaving the house, and two, it's mono. I get around the mono part in the post produciton phase. And always carry a set of headphones to monitor the audio to make sure you're getting a good recording. There's nothing like getting home and finding out the mic was switched off or only plugged part way in.

You might also consider the Audio-Technica ATR25 Stereo Condenser Microphone. It's less expensive and you could use it as a boom mic (provided you've got a spare broomstick
) |
