Geforce4ti 4600 problems
OS: windows xp pro
MoBo: MSI KT4V with 8x agp Video card: Geforce4ti 4600 8xagp Memory: 512 PC2700 I had a problem awhile back where my video card would scramble any images on the screen. I found out that the fan had basically melted so the card was overheating. I replaced the fan and that seemed to fix the problem...Well a few days ago something serious happened and my screen had colored lines shooting everywhere on it. The computer then seemed to lock up and the monitor started blinking from black screen to scrambled normal screen. So far i have updated the drivers, tried old drivers, reinstalled windows completely, updated my bios, added extra fans, reseated my video card fan and added more thermal paste...none of this has worked. The kicker is, the video card works fine until i install the drivers, any of them(new and old). I installed a geforce2 card i had and it worked ok. My question is this, Does this sound like its the video card or possibly the motherboard? If there are any questions please post and I will reply as soon as possible. Thank you |

Hi Geiun and welcome to Dev Shed.
It sounds to me like your graphics card is failing and that your motherboard is fine.

Thank you
Thank you for the reply.
I will more than likely be upgrading the motherboard along with the video card since i dont see a point in keeping with agp any longer. Any suggestions on a good motherboard/video card combo? im looking to spend around $600-700 all together. Thank you once again |

Depends on the processor that you are using. I would however suggest that you get one that uses PCI-E graphics.

I wanted to upgrade the processor as well. I am a gamer, doom3, world of warcraft, counter strike, I would like something that would run those with minimal lag.
so basically a motherboard/processor/memory and pci-e video card combo. Just looking for suggestions on brands and models to look at |
