How to get my MP3 library playable in my car? cheapest?
I don't use CDs anymore.
All my music is on my HDD, as usual (for here anyways). But I do enjoy music in my car, other than the radio. What are some solutions as to how to hook some drive up to my car to play the music in there? Basically looking for something like an interface that holds music and I can transfer it on via plugging it into my computer. Anything anyone heard of? I'm clueless, thanks! ![]() |

Thats a solution yeah.
I just read that iRIVER plans to create the "ipod" of this catagory. Basically it looks identical to a car cd player - but has a large HDD. I guess it also somehow pops out to connect to the PC to upload stuff. I could buy a portable, with an adaptor.......yes. I guess apparently the iriver type doesn't exist yet, they're supposed to be the first ones to make one. oh well - let's hope they do it in 2 months or less and it's cheap! |

I'd just get the portable mp3 player and a dock for it and call it a day. Unless of course you're really concerned about having a uber cool car and stuff.

On my road trip I got one of those little FM transmitters. Basically you find a dead air station, then dial the transmitter to the same channel and you can tune it in on FM.
Works well in the middle of nowhere (say, Nevada). Does not work well at all in any major metro area where the radio frequencies are all in use Works extremely well for rock, hip hop, *loud* music (Beastie Boys, Killing Joke, AC/DC, etc) Does not work well at all for quiet music (symphonic, orchestral, or quieter forms of jazz)

I got a Car FM-MP3 from AL Tech which takes usb sticks and plays them over FM, it was about $50 bucks US from a company called Merconnet (or something like that anyway). I like it, plug the memory stick in my desktop, drag & drop mp3's (in the order they will play), take it out to the car and play on an unused FM frequency. It's not fancy but it works well, the biggest drawback is no display or indicator telling you what song is currently playing.

I've seen homebuilt projects that might fit your needs if you're the DIY type. Otherwise, something like this sounds like it would be perfect, though I don't know how much it costs.
Otherwise, an iPod or similar with an FM transmitter or other car adapter would be easy and relatively cheap and you could listen anywhere you went. HTH

Oh, my usb mp3 player will work as just the fm transmitter for any other audio device as well.
