HP PAvilion 712a - My Computer is as silent as a mouse

i have looked everywhere! i saw your link for the audio driver, i downloaded it. that was all good until the installation. it came up with a logo that looked like a crab. then everything slowed down and a message on the monitor showed up. bla bla bla, some stuff about bios and turning off my video adapter. i dont think thats gonna help so i ignored it. Luke ur my only hope.

Can you give us more details on your problem ? The more details you can give us, the better.

what Im trying to say is that i reformatted my computer and now no sound is coming from my computer. so then i downloaded the realtek ac'97 and that was fine. so i installed it and then my system slowed down and it came up with a message saying critical system error and it was giving me suggestions like update your bios. i did all of the suggestions and that did not help either. now i think i need a downdated version of realtek ac'97 can someone grab me a link to one thanks.

Have you un-installed the driver firstly ? Sounds like you may have installed an incorrect driver.

Once you have un-installed it, run Windows Update. This will download the correct AC'97 sound driver for your machine as part of the updates if you don't have one installed.

i did what you said and i could not find anything to do with the ac97 and i have deleted and removed the original ac97 that i had. i probably need directions at the web site. i will tell u what i did. i searched windows updates on my computer and it came up with the logo with the earth with the windows logo in front of it so i double clicked on it. so it opened internet explorer with this address at the top. it came up with express or custom so i chose the recommended one, express. it said you need to download and install an updated version of windows update and thats what i did after the installation it restarted itself and when it started up nothing came up. so then i did everything that i did before and it came up with all these things but nothing about the audio driver please help.

As you have totally un-installed your sound driver now - before I go and have a look for one for you, is everything working ok now ?

Where did you download the driver from originally ?

hi its me again

yesterday i was taking off some hardware that i did not need and then i got rid of this weird program and after that i restarted the computer and it came up with a found new hardware then it started to search for this file (ALCXWDM.SYS) but it could not find it. i think that thing that you told me to do worked but something was just blocking it from getting the message.

if your talking about the one that i had before i reformatted i dont know. if u are talking about the one i had last time its the latest realtek ac97.

Yeah, I was meaning the version number of the one you just un-installed.
