Is agp 8x backwards compatible?

Need assistance with selecting hardware

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am making a budget system with bought parts and parts I already have. It may encounter a few games being played on it.

The motherboard is agp 4x. Is a agp 8x card backward compatible?

Heres the parts list: www.celliott.ath.cx/idea.htm

If they are backward compatible, whats better. The wintek card in my list, or this:http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...oduct_uid=55275

Many Thanks.

Yes agp 8x is backwards compatible and the difference isn't really great. For help deciding what video card to buy, check out http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/ here is a great unbiased video card review that covers all the major types.

The claim is: yes
The truth is: no

From personal experience I can vouch that an 8xAGP card (GeForce) did not work in a 4xAGP motherboard (ASUS)

I am considering buying a large-scale Itanium 2 processor from HP and it only supports AGP 4x. Could I put in a GeForce 7800GTX video card and run it at 4x speed rather than 8x speed?
