Is it possible to overlay PC output on a live feed?
Have a client who wants to do more inhouse advertising, and wants to output Powerpoint slides at the foot of the screen. Any ideas or inputs would be appreciated.
I'm assuming there'll be hardware required to blend the two feeds ... any idea what that might be called

No quite sure I'm picturing what they want: is it something like the news feeds that go across the bottom of the screen on CNN, only they want static advertising instead?

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't that an RSS feed?

Given that I don't currently know what I 'm looking for that's a possibility

These days it means Really Simple Syndication. The wiki might be a good starting point.
I don't see how it applies in your case unless you want to pipe in stock quotes, new headlines or the like from outside. But I guess you could set up an internal RSS thingy ... I dunno. I looked into having my site dispatch rss, some day I'll get back to that.

I have a friend who's a video/film production major. He says the overlay is done easily with a software package on a pc. He didn't remember the name of the program offhand, but if I find out I'll be posting.

That's what I was thinking. It seems to me a matter of setting up an internal website with the feed and running Active Desktop (for Win clients) to access it. |

OK live feed == video feed, as in television
In house advertising == Powerpoint (or any other method) to overlay on the live feed For televisual editing you'd normally need a genlock or similar hardware, but I'm wondering if there's hardware that can output a combined feed from two sources. Sorry lads (& lassies) should have been more categoric when posting ![]() |

You could always take the live feed into the pc using a tv card, overlay a flash thats transparent except for the bottom, run it on full screen, capture it out again and pipe it to the tvs.
I suppose it depends on exactly what the clients set up is and how flexible the solution needs to be. |
