Is my sound card broken?

Hey all...

Probably a stupid question but let's see what you all come up with.

I have my sound card plugged into my "Video Aux" of my stereo. So basically, I use my stereo speakers as my computer speakers when it is in the Video Aux setting.

Today, I was playing Winamp... when I pushed play, the song played quite loud then all of a sudden went quite soft. I checked the volume settings on my computer but they were all up high. I tried playing a DVD... it played at the softer level.

Usually when I have my speakers on "10" they are at room conversation level. Now you have to really strain to hear it.

When I change my stereo to play the radio, it's blasting. Like how it's supposed to be.

Also, I've checked the connections, they are all in tact and strongly connected.

Now, my question is "What the hell is going on with my computer!?"

THANKS!!!

Try running something else into the Video Aux and see if you get adequate sound-- the preamps for that input on your stereo may have gone.

Yea if your stereo amp is cheap you might have busted something on the input channel... Try plugging your computer in another input, for example "Tape". (Be aware though that "Tape Input" usually amplifies the sound a little bit more than other channels.)

It seems to me that the root of yourproblem is your stereo. Get it checked.
