Itermitent sound- sound card blues!
The Sound on my Hp Pavilion 6720 Win98SE pc with on board sound, is really playing up “! When I turn the PC on I hear the usual start up noise but this is really really loud, and then I cannot hear any more sounds from any programme or windows (mute is not on!) Sometimes (after about 30 mins of the pc being booted up) the sound magically ‘reappears’- but only for windows generated sounds ! When I try to play a file through windows media player I get the message “Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.”
If I go into system properties and look at the setting for the sound controller everything seems to be O.K and there are no conflicts on the input/output frequencies.
I have recently installed virgin.net broadband with a speed touch ADSL external modem and the problems appear to have started after then, however reinstalling the modem brings no avail!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
P.S I have run a 'pc pitstop test ' on my pc- the results fo whoch can be foun dby follwoign this link
