get another car?
I would think they would have an adapter, talk to the dealer, the lighter size should be standard.

The lighters are smaller than the standard ones on every other car in the universe? Odd. They make CD players that can actually go in the dash panel ... of course if it's designed like my Focus then the only option is the factory issued model.

Why not just buy an actual cd player and fit it ?
Anyway, lighter sizes should all be the same - they've been the same in every car I've had. (leaving this open for the time being.......) |

I have some doubts about the size, but some googling reveals that many people have issues with the wiring to the lighter, apparently the lighter is not advised for adapter use per the handbooks and people who've tried using it as such report fried electronics in great numbers

If you're crafty enough, you can find a 2002 Focus ZTS with the Mach sound system in it and jerry-rig it to fit other years and models. Unfortunately, that ZTS was a limited model, and they're pretty rare, so it would get a little pricey. Ford has all sorts of stupid problems with their audio systems. Mustangs were notorious for awhile for requiring electrical expertise to get them to properly power aftermarket systems without damaging the amps and wiring. |

I don't drive my car enough to really bother with any better stereo. I've got a CD player and about 20 mix CDs I made with a wide range of stuff I like on them to rotate through the player, and half the time I prefer just letting talk/sports radio yap at me anyway. For long trips in the middle of nowhere I've also got a FM transmitter for my mp3 player that works great as soon as I get out of this area (far too much station crowding to make it practical around here though).
