I find I get a humming kind of sound when the 'Wave' under volume control is set too high. I usually keep mine set to about ¼ the way up. Then I can move the regular 'Volume' bar and my speakers volume nob to where ever I need it to be. Hope this helps.

I think I have the same speakers and the problem. I fixed it just the way sir lancelot said. There seems to be at least 3 volume controls. On the speakers, a general volume control in windows, a volume control for the sound card and then another volume control in the application itself. Ok, 4 volume controls. Turn them all down to 1/4 and the speakers themselves at 1/8. Then use the volume in your application to see if you can get a good volume without the hum. Then if you want it a little louder turn up the speakers to 1/4.
