Question Minimum Spec. for Video Editing?

Hi,

My friend needs a new pc and he wants to use it for video editing, and maybe some sound stuff too.

He can't afford too much so I was wondering what would be the minimum spec for doing this? (probably using Adobe Premiere).

Is an expensive graphics card necessary, or is it just a case of getting as much ram and processor power as possible?

Is it worth paying extra for a Pentium 4 or will a Sempron / Athlon cut it?

Thanks,

For graphic editing you do not need a crazy 3D card unless he plans to render 3D objects. For 2D, any graphic card will do if he is not picky on color or does not plan to get good monitor. For 2D graphic editing Matrox is good for general use (although Matrox has high end cards, good for low-mid range). For high end 2D ATI FireGL is good card (overkill for most people).

Lol will an Athlon do, in general Athlon outperforms P4. If he can get an AMD Athlon64 your friend will love it (AMD-64 Rocks). Avoid socket 462 Sempron but the Socket 754 not so bad.
