New Speakers no sound..

We just bought some new Philips speakers for our computer a few days ago...

We can hook those speakers up, but when I go to hook up our old speakers the Philips will quit working...
I unhook the old speakers and the Philips will work with no problem...

Any idea what is happening?

So you're trying to hook up 2 pairs of speakers, and only the new ones work? Am I reading your question right?

Kinda... The new ones work when they are the only ones plugged in... Once I plug in the older ones the new ones quit working...

To get the new ones to work I have to unplug the old ones...

I hope I'm not to confusing...

Is there a splitter or adapter or something I need to get in order to have all working at once?

This depends on the type of speakers / the hardware (soundcard) you are using, and in some cases the version of windows you are on (i am thinking USB - Default sound device when i mention windows).

So.

What connections do you have on your speakers.. are they the same connection?
What colour sockets are you plugging each pair of speakers into (if they use stereo jack)?
Which version of windows are you on? xp? vista?
and do you know what soundcard you have?

I am running Windows Vista.. Sorry I should have said that before...
Not sure of the sound card.. How would I find out?

The color is either light green or teal.
As far as I can tell they are the same color jack... Not really sure.
My girlfriend is sleeping right now and I don't have a flashlight to see.. (don't wanna wake her up) So I can't turn the light on to check...

But the speakers we bought came in a box of 3. Philips. One sub and to small ones... The older ones are the ones that came with the computer.. Computer is Gateway..

Ahh.. i think you are falling into the common trick.
is one of them at the front, and the other at the back?
It sounds like you are plugging one into the front audio port (which cuts off the back audio... like headphones).

if you are trying to run 2 sets at the same time.. Have a look on the back of the PC, you might find you can use the black or yellow port (designed for surround sound).

If you want to run both at the same time i suggest you go out and buy a 2.5mm stereo jack splitter (about £2.50 - $4) and plug them both into the same socket

For some reason I thought it wouldn't bother with the speakers having one set hooked up in the front... DUH!!!!

I feel dumb... haha

I will check into it tomorrow when I have more light to work with...
