Hi, hope someone can help me, i have an hp omnibook 6000, i reformated the hard disc as the i think the windows xp it was running was a pirate copy (i purchased the laptop on ebay) however after reformating using windows 2000 all my audio has completely gone, ive tried everything i know to restore it, but i believe its the audio drivers, and im stuck, so id be grateful for any advice as to what to i can do, to restore sound - by the way - before the reformat, sound was working perfectly.
Many thanks. ![]() |

Thats because that is the only way to fix it. Reformatting loses your drivers. Next time be sure you locate video, network, and sound drivers before reformating.

Your opinion please
I did the same thing as the original poster and have no sound either. Windows 2000 after a format from Windows 98..all was well prior to the reinstall. I went to control panel/soundsandmultimedia as was suggested and there is no inof about the type of sound card anywhere. It's a "Crystal CS4281/CS4280 built-in Sound Blaster Pro, MPC-3, MPU-401," compatible Audio on an eMachine 600. Old machine but works for my needs. I'm thinking it's either drivers and or a hardware conflict. I've downloaded the new drivers and tried installing them but nothing. That's probably because I'm not doing it properly. Am not quite sure how to put everything together re: uninstalling stuff from device manager and reinstalling. Any help or step by step (if you have the time) instructions on how to do this would be much apprceiated. Also I've been reading about these possible hardware conflicts DMA/PIO lines given to individual pieces of hardware eg mouse/keyboard/printer/soundcard, etc. Is it possible my soundcard is conflicting with something already assigned that line? I'm not undertsnding exactly how this works but get the idea of it. Also read wereit says not to mess with those if you don't know what you are doing..and I don't. So any computer nerd (my hero's) out there that can help..this is one gal would would be forever greatful. Thanks much. Happy Happy ALL Hallo's Eve! |
