No sound devices? what have I done

I had a problem the other day when I loaded a game onto my laptop .. it messed up the resolution of the screen and I managed to fix it after a lot of messing about.. one of the things I did was go to driver detective and renew my sound card driver to the one recommmmended as it said my current one was out of date .. guess what now I have no sound and the box is greyed out in the control panel.. I have read the other threads but am unsure exactly what i need to download to correct it .. see below belarc: - can someone advise me please Operating System System Model

Do you know what driver you installed ? I think you may have installed the wrong driver for your device.

Yes I went onto Driver detective and it told me i have to update driver to sigmatel High Definition audio CODEC.. however when I rebooted I got a pop up saying the board would not be compatable with this driver and it also gave me the web site of Intel to see what boards were compatable !!! I would rather it had said which driver I needed !!.. Now I have just been on the dell website and downloaded the suggested driver ... you are correct I had down loaded an incorrect driver ... many thanks for your support
