Hello,
I have a 2006 HP Pavillion a1310n desktop, w/Windows XP Media Center Edition, that has been virtually trouble free for my first 10 months of use. The only problem I have is my computer's speakers don't play any audio from websites that use Macromedia Flash Player (i.e. YouTube, Napster, Homestar Runner, etc). My built in speakers on my HP 17" flat panel play audio from everything else (i.e. Mindows Media Player, RealPlayer, Quick Time, Sony Vegas). I checked for updates at Macro's web page and I have the current/update on it. The video portion works but no audio. I used the search engine here at Dev Shed and didn't come up with anything. I used the search engine at Windows Update and at Macromedia Flash site and couldn't find anything there either. My audio/sound card (Realtek AC97 Audio) says its working properly. The only thing I think it could be is something with the audio codecs. The reason I think this is because when I first installed Sony Vegas 6.0 and was rendering/editing a video, I had no audio with it. I downloaded a "all purpose" audio codec for various media editing softwares and installed it. That didn't work. I finally found an option, deep "inside" Vegas to select a non default playback device and instantly, I had the sound working w/in Vegas. So here's my question: could the audio codec package I installed "messed" with a certain aspect of my audio device that only Macrmedia Flash Players use and if it did, how can I reinstall the proper (default) audio codec package? Sorry this is so long...I just wanted to be as descriptive as possible. ~Nate |

Hi NateDawgz and welcome to Dev Shed.
Is this with Internet Explorer ? Have you tried a different browser to see if it plays in that ?

It is w/ Internet Explorer and I tried it on Mozilla Firefox, and the audio didn't work there either. It's just weird that I can see the video, but no audio. |

It could be a problem with the codec you installed. Have a look at this article from MS about how to install and remove codecs, see if it helps ==> Clicky

Try downloading k-lite codec pack (standard), that should fix your problem.

aitken325i,
Thanks for the link, I think this is what I need for default codec, but I think MS messed up in the instructions. They talk about the Windows Setup tab in the Add/Remove Programs (XP & Win2000 doesn't have one - can't find), then to click Multimedia or Sounds and Multimedia (can't find it in Add/Remove Programs either). I tried this both with my home comp (XP) and my work computer (Win2000) and can't seem to find these options. Could you try this with your computer to see if "they" explained it properly and you have this option to click Audio Compression and Video Compression? Maybe it was for Win98? IceDragon, Thanks for the suggestion. I will try the k-lite codec pack (standard). However, I think this was one of the packs that I DL'ed & installed when I was having the Vegas audio "issues". Thanks for your help guys, ~Nate |

No luck with the k-lite codec pack (standard).
Actually, my volume level for Windows Media player, RealPlayer dropped by 50%. I had to go into the volme and sound properties to max out (100%) every level under Volume Control just to be able to hear it playing. I'll guess I'll just uninstall it. Any other suggestions guys? |
