Ac97 is a pretty common audio device, windows shouldnt really have any trouble with it. The board may be damaged or maybe you disabled it in the BIOS by acccident?? or you may have inadvertently disabled it in the device manager.

Well if you never accessed the bios to begin with , then you didnt accidentally change any settings it so yoir better off leavng it alone. Did you try removing ac97 from the device manager allyogether and letting windows redetect it on the next boot?

re-install

you should have a cd that came with your motherboard or a driver cd. all you need to do is reinstall the driver for it and hopefully it should work.
