Where about are you plugging it in ? Desktops ports are usually colour coded so just connect it into the port of the same colour.
How do you know the computer doesn't recognise it, guessing you're not getting any sound ?? You might need to update your sound drivers. Speaking of which, you'll need to ensure that you have a sound card installed.

well see we had the computer downstairs and we deleted everything off the computer so its "brand new" now and we just put it in my brothers room, we hooked up the computer into the correct color ports and i went to the controll panel and checked for sound hardware and devices and none were found. |

Check in the BIOS to see if the 'onbard sound' is disabled (i'm assuming that you have onboard sound) and if it is, enable it.
You might need to update the drivers. What make/model of machine is it ? |

OK, what sound card are you using ? Have you opened up the case to ensure that it is seated correctly ?? If so, have you tried updating the drivers for it ?

Did you plug in the speakers (like to a power source)?

Most likely it is not your speakers it is your sound card driver, if you got any cd's witch your comp the driver is probly on them. Also make sure everything is plugged in and turned on. Dont be to proud to check. There have been times where people have paid me to go fix a computer and all it was that they were too proud to press the on button on the back. If al else fails get a hammer. |
