Prolbems with SVCHOST.exe eating up resources?

I had a problem - that's right it is now FIXED - for 8 months with my computer running okay on its initial boot, but if I shutdown and tried to come back up in less than 2 hours, one of my SVCHOST.exe processes would HOG almost all ofthe CPU time.

After a lot of frustration, technical support that didn't help, I decided to replace my HP200i DVD Read/Write drive with a newer HP420i DVD Read/Write drive.

Voila - its like I just bought the machine.

I had forgotten how fast it used to be.

Mind you, I had no other information than SVCHOST.exe (one of them) was eating all my resources. It handled most of the DLL's used on the machine.

I am now a happy camper!!

winTools for IE tends to do this alot. I highly doubt it had to do with the drive. SVCHOST is used for mostly internet based applications that use your idle time to do updates and things like that. Do a search on the net about it and you find multiple things to do.
