Should I buy this video card
Hi all,
I'm looking for a new video card and came across this one. Its specs are a little bit surprising to me considering the cost. Also, the card uses a heatsink instead of a fan. If anyone owna the card or knows anything about it, please give me some insigts on the performance, and how well it does compare to other brands. Here is the item in question: XFX Geforce 6200 512MB Video Card for $96.00. Specs: GPU: Geforce 6200 Core clock: 350MHz PixelPipelines: 4 Memory Clock: 400MHz Memory Size: 512MB Memory Interface: 128-bit/64-bit Interface: AGP 4X/8X Memory Type: GDDR2 RAMDAC: 400 MHz Max Resolution: 2048x1536@85Hz Cooler: Heatsink Also, what is GDRR2? Is it better to have a fan or heatsink for this type of video card? Thanks in advance. n3wB ![]() |

First off,
What are you going to be using it for? Gaming? Office Work? Secondly GDDR2 is the bit rate of the memory on the graphics card. GDDR2 is 128Bit(pretty sure). In laymans terms its how fast your memory is on your graphics card. GDDR2 is slower than GDDR3, which is used in most high end cards. And if your just doing office work, the heatsink it came with sould work just fine. If you are going to be gaming. try a better card. anything in the 6800 series or 7800 series. |

I plan to use it for AutoCad and some home video editting. I also play game, but not very often. Will the card's specs satisfy the standard video performance (ie: playback quality on the finish product, time takes during editing process, and anything related to that nature.)? Also, what would be a comparable or better card in the 6800 and 7800 series to this one? Thanks for the inputs.

well, if you plan to do CAD and Video Editing, and still want to game. You might want to shoot from some of the workstation video cards. Including ATI's Fire GL line and Nvidia's Quadro Line of video cards. these cards are designed for editing and especially CAD drafting. However they are somewhat expensive. heres the very good NVIDIA Quadro.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133093 but if you dont want to spend a lot of money just get the 6600GT. its fast, simple, and will get the job done. |
