Something wrong with my soundcard?

I have a relatively new Lenovo T61 laptop. I noticed that when I listen to music with headphones only the left earbud was working. I tried different headphones to see if maybe the first pair were broken but the problem persisted. I figured it was a problem with the jack but to my surprise when I unplugged the headphones to just use the laptop speakers, only the left speaker was working. This makes me think there's a soundcard problem. I checked the basic volume settings to make sure the balance was centered.

What do I do next?

If the pan is set correctly, take a look to make sure your sound is configured properly. Go to Control Panel -> Sounds And Audio devices -> Audio tab and click the Advanced button uner the Sound Playback section. Make sure the speaker setup reflects what you actually have. Also verify that you're using the correct playback device.
