Sound deactivated after uninstallation of WinXP SP1
Hi,
The sound in my system has got deactivated.Am not able to get any sounds. The configuration windows for Sounds and Devices got thro Control Panel is completely greyed out. Actually i had to install VB.My PC had WinXP with SP2 installed.I read on web VB can be installed if SP2 is uninstalled,SP1 is installed and then upgraded to SP2. After uninstalling SP2 and installing SP1,sound device is not working fine. The Add or Remove Pgms list shows my audio device as Realtek High Definition Driver. Do i have reinstall the drivers or will it be fine after installing SP2. Did anybody else hav the same issue??? PLz help !!! |

Hi ashwinivenkob and welcome to Dev Shed.
Have you re-installed SP2 yet ? Have you tried to re-install your driver ?

Hi aitken,
Ya i tried reinstalling SP 2 but it again gives an error, coz of the prior SP2 build remains. I need the WinXP installation CD to remove the build remains which i do not have. Guess i ll hv to reinstall the OS.. ![]() |

To reinstall the OS, don't you need the CD? And if you have the CD, can't you just remove the build remains? |

Hey,
Thx for tht reply but i was actually thinkin of changing the OS to 2003 if required... Forgot to mention tht n the last post... Even if i hv to use WinXP CD to uninstall the build then install SP2 again n sound drivers n don know wht more , then i guess a complete OS installation is a better option. |

OK - there is no need to re-install your OS to totally uninstall SP2. Have a look at this article from Microsoft about how to uninstall SP2 ==> Clicky
