Unhappy Sound device problem

1. I just installed windows xp pro on my custom built pc.

2. My motherboard is an XFX NF2S-ALH

3. I installed all the drivers, including the Legacy Audio Drivers.

4. I have a PCI generic modem with MIDI playback installed, I don't know if this causes a problem.

5. It says I have no audio device installed, even though it says all the drivers are installed and enabled. I can't play sound, change the volume, or play games that require a sound card installed.

I'm experiencince much the same problem as you Shnizno, but my falty system is a laptop (Acer TravelMate 803LCI) about a week ago I switched it off with everything working fine and when I booted up the next day it had no sound!

I didn't install anything new and it's not a hardware problem because the sound worked when I used a Linux live distro. Since then I experience another problem with the USB controler that also stoped working in much the same way but a reboot solved that problem.

If someone as any ideas they would be welcome! Due to finals and term papers I can't format the machine right now or send it to technical support!

Thank you!

When I had a similar problem, it was due to overclocking the PCI bus. Dual booting can also cause this, but a reboot should fix it in that case. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers? They might have been corrupted.
