Exclamation spontaneous loss of all audio-help.serious!

well im stumped. beginning to panic... yep there i go
just put in me new pci soundcard (e-mu 0404) installed drivers and and it was all smooth. did some recording, bit of cubase. wicked. turned it on yesterday and suddenly i cant get a peep out of it. WMplayer acts like its playing the song but the visualisation shows nothing or very few frames per minute. i start up FLstudio5 and it's sposed to play a fat intro sound. nothing. the cursor alternates regularly between normal/hourglass. no sound from cubase either. it wont even play system sounds. ive exhausted the XP troubleshooter, yes, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, tried turning off ac97 audio in the blue screen. i think i got rid of the onboard audio drivers (only with add/remove progs)
e-mu's website is sh#.
please bail me out.
oh btw. i bought all me bits separate, its basically a LGA775gigabyte board with intel 2.6 and the onboard audio was called Realtek
if ya help me i'l send u a cd

Try this:

- remove the drivers for the realtek (don't restart)
- remove the drivers for your new card (don't restart shutdown)
- move the card from the current pci slot to another one.
- reinstall the drivers for the new card
- rock on

Well this worked for my Audigy 2 a few times when I though it died... Good luck!

Sure... I guess you can like reboot without it, just make sure onboard sound is deactivated in the BIOS and uninstalled in Windows, then shutdown after using the computer like 10 minutes or something, put the card in the slot then install the drivers.

Question

it was all good for a couple days then i booted up this morning and same again. knowing what to do, i got rid of everything, whipped out the card, put it in the old slot and after fully reinstalling drivers i got a different problem. the sound thats meant 2 play when fruity loads up i could see, in the oscilloscope, was playing but i couldnt hear anything. after checking the usuals i reinstalled the drivers and we're back to normal, but for how long? any idea what causes it to go down suddenly on startup?
i run the outs thru a stereo amp which i usually flick on after the PC power. this bad? btw, the whole time device manager has been saying this device is working properly and there's no conflicts. preciate your help

Do you know where I can get good FL samples?

I just installed FL5 Producer Edition, but don't have all the samples...

Ok well if you say it all works but not in fruityloops then try to check the options in fruity loops to reselect the soundcard and stuff. Then it should be fine. I remember my card did seem to die on me more than once, but when I re-installed windows it never happened again, so maybe you should re-install windows if it gets too annoying. That thing about the amp don't worry about it, theres nothing bad about that at all, in fact I used to do it and the quality was amazing.

Thanks again for the CD lol I can't wait to get it.

And talk about a thread hijack Dangerous... instead of asking this question why don't you get better warez next time? I don't think sharing the default samples is any more legal than sharing the actual program anyways.

medialint agrees: Plus most of the FL samples suck anyway. Make your own or *purchase* a better library for optimal
results ...

it is a pain, to be sure. any idea what's causing the problem?
hardware/software, motherboard/sound card. might be wrong but i think windows is fine, did a clean install and it all worked pukka for ages, the emu soundcard was fine for a while even alongside the onboard AC97 audio + realtek drivers.
there's a lot to back up if im going to wipe the HD
btw the card came with the latest available drivers, i checked the website.

Yea but it doesn't really have anything to do with how recent the drivers are and etc... it's probably because they were both enabled at the same time for a while so Windows was being weird and still thinks the other one is there and forgetting about the new one. That's about the best BS I could come up with as a logical explanation...

I have a suggestion for yo to avoid having to backup everything. If you have another computer lying around you should jack the hardrive from it and put it in the one you have now. Transfer all your files you need to backup on that hardrive, then reinstall windows, then recopy the files.

Another thing, next time you install windows i suggest making more than one partition on your hardrive, so that you only wipe out some files instead of all files when you re-install windows.

ive been told it might be to do with driver signing, the drivers for the card say all that is missing is 'digital rights management' and that its been thoroughly tested by emu and to continue anyway. thats what ive been doing. this doesen't seem like the cause to me. gonna reinstall windows tonight but if it doesn't work is the best thing to return my motherboard? i know id best test the emu card in another computer first but that is a really massive task on a really really slow machine downstairs. iv had other problems with the muthaboard tho like not recognising floppys and 2 matched DDR sticks only running 1 channel. could these problems have a common cause?
drop me an email when uv listened to that disc
rock on

Well by not recognizing floppoes do you man at boot time, when Windows is loaded or both? This might also be a Windows problem. About the DDR, make sure you put them in teh right slots to run in DDR, most boards require to place them specially and not in any slot. Tell me how it goes when Windows is reinstalled but I wouldn't start blaming the motherboard yet! Ok and I didn't get the CD yet but I'll tell you when I do.

not too worried about floppys, seems ok now. still can't get memtest86 to work tho. never mind. just completely reinstalled windows (both types: keep-your-data and full-erase-install) still exactly the same problem, though i can get it working fully if i change the slot. that is, until i turn it off! on the DDR thang, iv only got 2 slots on the board, a matched pair of twinmos 512 PC3200 sticks. dxdiag tells me ive got 512mb of ram. also the thing won't start at all with only one stick. continuous beeps meaning 'DRAM error'. so, what do i send back? ideally i'd like to fix it without RMA.
