Stopped detecting audio device (XP)

I'm running XP on an nforce2 w. Radeon 9200, and up until this week had my sound running smoothly. I am using the nforce2's sound hardware, and have no other soundcards plugged in.

A few days ago it stopped responding. Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices claims "no audio device".

I've tried:

- Updating nforce2 drivers
- Re-installing XP core files

Any suggestions

I may have done an XP update at around the time it stopped working, but can't be sure.

i have had problems with the update for the nforce audio on my board, had to go back to an older version. strange that it should be saying no audio device though. I take it the audio is enabled in your bios?

Yup, it's set to "autodetect" for the audio.
I tried following the roll-back instructions for nvidia drivers to no avail. I tihnk I'm currently on the nForce_2.03 drivers.

Sheepish question: It's also saying it's detecting a SCSI controller which needs drivers. Could this be related? I'm a hardware buffoon, and am unsure of how this might relate, or of how to determine what drivers I need for my SCSI controller.
