Talking Surround Sound Software 'Speaker switch' - move the centre speaker through software??

Hi,

Im looking for some software that will let me change one of the 5 speakers in a 5.1 setup to act as another speaker. To clarify - I would like to find software that has te same effect as connecting the centre speaker to the front left channel and the moving all the other speakers round. It sounds confusing but there's a reason for this:

I have a desk and a TV in my office (they're arranged in an L shape) - I play games on my PC and the 5.1 is setup for this, with the centre speaker next to the monitor. However when I play games on my xbox (connected to the TV) I turn my chair 90 degrees to the right, and would like to reconfigure my sound cards' speaker channels to rotate with me, rather than reaching behind my tv and changing the wires to have the speakers sutiable for 5.1 coming from the TV. My tv and xbox are routed through my PCs sound card back to te 5.1 speakers. Im sure this is possible and I could code it myself, however Im a great believing in not re-inventing the wheel, so does anybody have any idea of where I could find this software?

Thanks everyone

Thumbs up moving speakers?

Im guessing your going digitally into the computer from the x-box (most soundcards I know of only have l/r analog inputs) If you have analog wires, it would be fairly easy to swap them, or to make a relay switch (maybe at the outputs to the speakers, provided its not a digital output) but otherwise, Im not aware of software thats made for that purpose, BUT there is one thing you might want to look into... Theres a independant company that makes sound card drivers for a variety of chipsets (including most soundblaster cards, and some others) that gives you FULL CONTROL of all the ins and outs (including each channel of the digital ins and outs) that you can configure to do what you want it to, but it is complicated to figure out, since it is really made for the "Professional" sound engineer. I am a pro sound engineer and sometimes have trouble figuring out how to set it to do exactly what I want, but it is worth checking into. ITs called KX Audio Project. I forget the exact website but yahoo will find it quickly. It does come with a basic setup, and you can modify it from there. Check it out, it might be what your looking for. (note that since it is a driver, it would be replacing your current audio driver, not just adding on). -- Audioguy78
