Weird problem with speakers

Okay, I have the Altec Lansing VS4121 2.1's and just today I noticed that if I turn the volume knob all the way to the left, I can still hear music playing. It's muffled but I can hear enough to know what song it is. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Yes actually... It's simple and your speakers aren't busted or junky just for that. The volume knob is actually a variable resistor (turning to the left increases resistance on the current, turning to the right decreases it.) So the reason why you still hear a bit of muffled music is probably because :

1 - That variable resistor was a lemon and slightly off spec therefore not being of a high enough resistance value.

2 - The speaker might of been assembled with the resistor/knob glued kinda crooked so even thought it seems your knob is all the way to the left it actually isn't.
